Access to electronic resources from home

Here you find information on how you as a student or employee at Lund University can use the library's electronic resources, such as databases, journals and e-books even when you are outside the university network, for example at home.

Login to databases and electronic resources

To access the library's electronic resources outside the university network, you have two options:

  • Start at the Library website
The links to e-resources from the Library of Science website are created in a way that let you identify yourself as a user from Lund University. When you choose a database or other electronic resource by clicking the link, you are, in most cases, asked to login. Use your Lucat or your student account.

  • Set up a VPN (virtual private network)
Students and staff at Lund University can use VPN to access university services from home or remotely. When using VPN you will automatically be able to access most of the library’s e-resources.

Other ways to get access

If you find one of the library's e-resources via, for example, a search engine, you will not be automatically recognised as a Lund University user (unless you are connected to the university network).

For the e-resource to be accessible for you as student or staff who are off-campus, add the following text (before the web address of the resource) to the URL: http://ludwig.lub.lu.se/login?url=

Follow these steps:

  1. Copy this proxy prefix: http://ludwig.lub.lu.se/login?url=
  2. Paste the proxy prefix directly in front of the URL of the page you want to access, no spaces. A properly crafted URL might then look like this:
    http://ludwig.lub.lu.se/login?url=https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/book/10.1002/9781118652541
  3. Press the enter button to reload the page.

When the page is reloaded, you will gain access to the electronic resource.
